The story takes place in a distant future where the aging gene has been defeated. To avoid overcrowding, time has become the greatest asset of the global economy and how to pay for the luxuries and necessities. The rich have the privilege of living forever while the rest try to negotiate as you can to achieve immortality.

The film focuses on a young person without financial resources that is fortunate to have access to stop your biological clock, but too late to save his mother from death. The boy fled end with Seyfried's character corrupt police force known as "time keepers" (timekeepers), responsible for safeguarding the system installed.
